New "Return from Broken" Rock Album and Performance Leveraging Upbeat Approach to Thwart Addictions -
Concept Album Raising Awareness and Funds for National Epidemic
SALT LAKE CITY, UT, April 06, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As Utah musician Matt Soren releases his concept album "Return from Broken", the occasion marks his triumphant emergence from a 20-year battle with addiction. A blend of electro-rock, piano, keyboard, and acoustic guitar, "Return from Broken" is an awareness-raising concept CD and performance. Its alternative rock tracks take the listener on Soren's cathartic journey of recovery and ultimate return to life. A portion of all net proceeds raised from ticket, album and merchandise sales will go directly to support various organizations that are waging war against addictions.
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), "Over 22 million individuals have a substance dependence or abuse problem in the U.S." Even more startling, the findings of an independent survey published in "USA Today" a few years back revealed that "there were about six million persons with illicit drug dependence or abuse" who "did not seek specialty treatment for their" problem. In addition, an estimated 17 million people "with alcohol dependence or abuse did not receive specialty treatment." Without much-needed help, many of these addicts will die as a result of their dependencies or commit suicide in a last-ditch effort to escape the pain.
As eye-opening as those figures are, however, they don't paint the full picture. "The addictions facing us today run the gamut from prescription drugs and gambling to sex and eating disorders," explains Soren. "Over the past 20 years, I tried just about everything you can think of break my chain of addictions. 'Return from Broken' goes through the process that actually and finally worked for me. Within the songs' lyrics and licks, I give everything I would provide a close friend who has been dealing with anything similar."
It's not just Soren's been-there-done-that viewpoint, however, that makes "Return from Broken" so relatable. The album's upbeat, alternative rock flavor appeals to the 30 and under crowd. By connecting with young people at their level through an interactive show blending music, personal experiences and guiding principles, Soren hopes to release them from their addictive restraints early on or, even better, raise awareness before those addictions even transpire. To that end, he is now taking his music and hopeful message on the road, starting in the Salt Lake area, with the aim of supporting and generating revenue for organizations who fight and prevent addiction.
